Discord expands Family Center with new teen safety tools
Discord has rolled out a major update to its Family Center, expanding its parental monitoring tools to include oversight of teen spending, call time, and top interactions.
First launched in 2023, the Family Center’s new features now allow linked guardians to see the “total purchases” their teen has made in the last week, which includes items from the Discord Shop and Nitro subscriptions. Guardians can also view the total number of minutes their teen spent in voice and video calls across DMs, groups, and servers. Additionally, the dashboard will display the top five users and servers the teen has interacted with most frequently over the past seven days.
The update also introduces new guardian-managed settings that can only be altered by the parent. These controls allow guardians to manage who is allowed to send their teen a direct message, whether sensitive content filters are enabled, and how their teen’s data is used for privacy and personalized ads.
A new optional feature for teens has also been added. When a teen reports content on the platform, they will now have the option to notify their guardian of the action. However, Discord stated that the notification will not include specific details of the report, encouraging teens to discuss the situation directly with their guardians.
