TikTok scores partnership with FIFA for World Cup highlights
FIFA announced on Thursday a partnership with TikTok designating the platform as preferred for its media partners to broadcast parts of 2026 World Cup matches live. The collaboration runs through the end of 2026 and aims to engage fans during the tournament from June 11 to July 19 across 16 cities in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
The announcement specifies that media partners can air live clips from matches on TikTok, though the precise duration of these segments remains undisclosed, described only as parts of matches. FIFA has not provided further details on clip lengths, leaving the extent of coverage open-ended.
FIFA states the partnership is intended to bring fans closer to the action through this social media integration. This approach aligns with broader efforts to distribute football content via digital platforms.
TikTok’s global head of content emphasized the platform’s impact on sports engagement, stating that live sports content transforms fandom into measurable business results for sports partners. Fans who view sports material on TikTok become 42 percent more likely to tune in to live matches, according to this assessment.
TikTok plans to enhance its World Cup coverage with interactive elements including filters, stickers, and other gamification features to boost user participation and content sharing.
FIFA will provide a select group of global TikTok creators with access to press conferences and training sessions. This access enables them to produce original content directly from official events surrounding the tournament.
FIFA secretary-general Mattias Grafstrom commented in the announcement, As football grows and evolves — uniting an increasing number of people — so should the way it is shared and promoted. This reflects FIFA’s strategy to adapt distribution methods to football’s expanding global audience.
